How Can Someone So Smart, Be So Stupid?

Thankfully, now that twelve hours have almost pass, I can laugh at my husband, b/c at 2:30 this morning . . . I wanted to kill him! LOL!

I have been blessed so far and Loco has been sleeping through the night for almost a month! We think that he is starting to teeth and/or hit a growth spurt. This has caused him to start waking up in the middle of the night. DH has been sleeping at irregular hours (hard to adjust from work to home) and has been getting up to change the baby's diaper in the middle of the night (which he never did with Loo). Of course, if the baby is awake, he wants to nurse...so, I feed him.

Having a select memory, DH remembers nothing from when Loo was a baby, admitting it the other day with a laugh - yeah, HaHaHeHe - I remember everything! She also started waking up in the middle of the night while teething and thoroughly enjoyed the company/attention, so the unnecessary wakings continued for a long, painful month. Loco is probably on the same path and hubby is not helping the situation at all!

All the veternan mama's out there know that part of the key to preventing children from middle of the night waking includes using no lights with quick interactions and little (preferablly no) conversation. Well, since hubby is gone for work a lot, he loves to interact with the kiddos - no matter what time of the day! ARGH! At 2:30 he brought Loco to me (after ten minutes of cooing with him by the light of the closet) and said, "I seemed hungry at first b/c he sucked on my cheek, but I probably could have just played with him until he went to sleep." WTF?!!? Played with our three month old at 2:30 in the morning? He is so stupid and is oblivious to the bad habits he would teach our child!

Being the patient person that I am, I just grunted and pulled Loco close to nurse. I figured a grunt that I could play-off to being sleepy was better than going ballistic on his butt at that hour! I thought that would be forgotten and he would move on, but NOOOOOOOO . . . when I was getting ready for work, he informed me that tomorrow morning he is going to try an experiment and play with Loco instead of bringing him in to feed. [insert cringe here] So, I had to politely (so, not to hurt his feelings) explain to him the process and how that would be a bad idea; all while thinking what an F'ing idiot he is.

How can my smart husband be so stupid when it comes to basic parenting skills? Some many of these things are common sense . . . DUH!

Positive: went to bed earlier than usual last night
Gratitude: for beautiful smiles and lovin' from my two angels
Vent: see above, my damn neck, professionals not replying to emails that require it

At least when he is home, he is willing to get up with the kids... not all hubby's will do that. But - try to encourage the dark room, and everything else you said... sometimes it's the smartest people that make the rest of us wonder what the heck?

It's such a catch 22. You must be thrilled he wants to be up with the baby. But, not to keep her awake! aaaaaaahhhhh [That's me screaming!] :) Great post. :)

Thanks for stopping by!

Yeah, I frequently wonder how my otherwise fairly intelligent husband can be so logically stupid when it comes to kids.

At least he offered to "play" with Loco, my DH insisted that EVERY TIME Daughter #2 woke up she was "hungry." Of course she is...they're my boobs, not yours!
